Maintaining Your Log Home

Maintaining Your Log Homes

There is nothing more appealing as having your own log home. It is pretty, cozy and charmingly rustic. One of the main problems of having a log home, however, is maintenance. Log homes are vulnerable to fungal and insect attack, as well as normal weathering and shrinkage of the logs.

Home Maintenance Services

A reputable log homebuilder will take steps to minimize the damage caused by nature, but regular maintenance is still necessary. After construction, water repellent treatment, staining or coating specially designed for log homes is recommended. It will minimize moisture absorption, protect against mold and mildew build up and allow for moisture vapor transfer. Some products may even provide protection against ultraviolet exposure and abrasion resistance that will cause the wood to fade.
